Our Big Boy Bed Experiment

After Noah jumped out of his crib, I was advised by friends, family, doctors, and nurses to change him to a big boy bed. Noah has a convertible crib, so Michael read that the crib converted into a REALLY BIG BOY BED----with a FULL SIZE mattress. We went shopping for mattresses and (reluctantly) bought the mattress size required. It felt like an outer body experience. Here my toddler was going to move from his crib to a bed that could sleep 2 adults? "This is going to swallow him," Michael said. We ventured home and Michael took the crib apart. The size of that mattress really threw me for a loop. We might as well have been dropping him off at college, I felt; after all, this mattress was big enough to sleep a college kid! It was right about this time that I proceeded to eat cream cheese icing with a spoon...straight from the can! Michael started drinking beer before noon. This didn't seem right or possible to make such a large jump. Michael got the crib un-assembled only to discover another box with another set of directions. But it was good news---The crib didn't just jump from a crib to a full-size bed. First, there's a toddler bed option, which is what we opted for. Then there's the option of a little-kid day bed...THEN the full size. O.k. Now THAT we could deal with! Of course, Michael had to put the crib back together, but he was happy to do it. Noah LOVED his new big boy bed! He thought it was so cool that he could go in and out all by himself. Of course, we're still freaked out that he can get in and out by himself. Michael bought a video monitor when Noah jumped out of his crib, so I'm actually able to glance at the monitor as I write this & see my sleeping angel. And he was MUCH easier to put down for nap & bed having moved him from 2 naps to one. LOTS of changes for us & Noah this week! We're celebrating with Olive Garden! Back to the workout plan tomorrow! Noah shopping for his new mattress that we later found out he didn't need!

  1. First, that post had me laughing out loud!! Esp. the cream cheese icing and beer part!! :) Second, I am so glad it's all working out! Sounds like Noah loves his new bed and is adjusting to the one nap perfectly. Good job, Mommy (and Daddy)!
