All Day Gardening Projects

I was feeling bummed today because I was registered for the Warrior Dash today, but didn't get to participate because I'm pregnant. And it was supposed to rain all day. And I work tomorrow. Yuck. BUT, the day QUICKLY took an upswing when we spent ALL DAY OUTSIDE, re-doing 2 front beds. This bed was a mess! It was beautiful...about a month ago...when it was full of Ice Follies daffodils, however, all that was left was nasty stems. UNFORTUNATELY, if you cut the stems, nutrients won't go back into the bulb, and your flowers won't bloom well next year. We ended up going to Hughes & getting 7 Pink Knockout roses & 7 flats of profusion zinnas. The roses will eventually grow together, creating a nice evergreen backdrop with some height to whatever annuals we plant. UNFORTUNATELY, we had a daffodil predicament. It was a lot of work...in fact, after 10 hours outside, it was much harder than the Warrior Dash would've been. I dug up all the bulbs at the base of the trees. Pulled out all the pansies. Re-planted the bulbs at the lower end of the bed where there was room for more. But we still had lots of daffodil leftovers spilling everywhere. I tried to bury as much of the daffodils underneath the mulch, all the while trying to plant the zinnas with all this muck in between. Note to self...this was a big pain! I may move the daffodils next year, but for now, they're under the mulch & 7 flats of zinnas!
'Rosa Radcon' Pink Knockout Rose

This bed was a mess as well. We dug everything out & replanted 3 Knockout Roses and outlined the bed with Mexican Heather.

Noah was a great helper and liked the sprinklers, of course!
